Father's Day and Mother's Day are two holidays that, for some reason, tend to bring families apart a lot more than bring them together. Perhaps it is because of the high expectations some parents and kids put on these days, or perhaps it is because some families struggle with celebrating these days properly. Either way, when the time comes for you to celebrate these days with your kids, maybe you should tread carefully.

The best approach for these two days, if you ask us, is not to let it be a surprise. Surprise is just another word for disappointment, because you can never live up to someone's expectation if you don't cue them in when you're making the plans. If you're planning to take your mom or your dad to a fun family activity, or if you simply plan to make them breakfast in bed and a sweet card, just tell them about it. They will know what to expect, the stress level will subside, and everyone will be happy.
